After driving Overseas Highway during cloudy and windy
day, next morning started sunny in Key West. I was still having a bit of a jet
lag, so I started the day early and went to the morning run to explore the
neighborhood of the hotel. From the beginning Key West felt different than
other parts of Florida. It felt like Cuba (although I have ever visited there,
but I still felt it). Key West is actually located closer to Cuba (140 km) than
Miami and there are many Cubans living in Key West. A morning run was
interesting experience – there was van village close by and lot of chickens and
roosters walking all over and it was nice to listen those guys for a while instead
of my normal jogging music… During these moments I’m seriously thinking about
buying GoPro as although I sometimes carry my DSRL with me while running, most
of the days it stays home. Or in this case at hotel. And due that sometimes I
miss perfect photo opportunities as while running you can see amazing things
which you don’t see normally.
After morning run it was time to go to Key West city
center. As I already get my Cuban feeling during my run, it felt natural to
continue to taste it by enjoying Cuban breakfast in the street cafeteria. Ah, I
can still taste that perfect Cuban coffee which I enjoyed while sitting in a sunny
terrace – it tasted so wonderful after drinking many mornings the American version
of coffee where milk is replaced with that horrible sweetener! Rest of our day
in Key West we spend strolling the streets without any hurry, enjoying the
local food and visiting Ernest Hemingway House and Museum as well as some photography
galleries along our way. All in all it was perfect day!
Key West is
