TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY IN BANGKOK: WAT ARUN - TEMPLE OF DAWN

View to Wat Arun - Temple of dawn - in Bangkok

View from my lunch table

After visiting Wat Pho it was time for lunch. While I enjoyed my lunch in a restaurant next to the river, I suddenly realized that view from my table was having something familiar – the temple which I saw opposite the river was the same one that was pictured in my 10 baht coin! After my lunch break I decided I want to check it closer. From the same pier which was acting as the closest express boat stop of Wat Pho, I was able to catch another boat which was crossing the river and transporting people to Wat Arun. This time I didn’t pay the entrance fee to the main temple as the climbing up looked and felt like mission impossible during the afternoon heat, but there was still lot to see in the area free of charge. Next time I will go to visit river front during sunset as after my trip I have seen some stunning photos from Wat Arun and sunset.

TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY IN BANGKOK: WAT PHO AND RECLINING BUDDHA

In addition to some shopping, exercising and of course eating, it was time to do also some sightseeing in Bangkok. There are many historical temples in city center and I decided to visit one of them. Visiting temple is good way to take a short break and enjoy the silence in this otherwise bustling city. Many of the temples are located next to the Chao Phraya River, so I was able to combine the temple tour with the river cruise. There is public transportation by boat available in the river, so you can use that for sightseeing the city with low cost.

There are plenty of temples in Bangkok, so which one to visit? The decision wasn’t difficult for me: if I was going to see Buddha, why not to see the biggest one? With that thought in my mind, I was going to Wat Pho which is famous from its huge reclining Buddha..

The Buddha was indeed huge one – it’s 15 m high and 43 m long

And it felt even bigger as the temple protecting the Buddha was just big enough to shelter it

There are also lots of other interesting structures in the area and peaceful corners
