In this month we travel to landscapes of Andaman Sea, Thailand.
This area is all about the sea, its islands, tropical weather, amazing landscapes
and sunsets. So plenty of photos from those will follow - and of course also
some from local people!
You can find active sea life and beautiful coral reefs
in this area which are perfect for snorkeling and diving. But that’s not all
which lives below the surface of this beautiful sea: there is also high seismic
activity in the area as it’s located in the boundary of two large tectonic
plates. Ten years ago on Boxing Day this seismic activity showed its true power:
the huge Indian Ocean earthquake generated the tsunami which went through the Indian
Ocean and also Andaman Sea area and caused a huge damage and losses. More than
200.000 people lost their lives. Biggest damages happened in Indonesia, Sri
Lanka and India, but also Thailand and Andaman Sea islands were partly
destroyed. Although the area has been rebuilt and tourist industry has
recovered from this natural disaster, the memory of that day can still be seen
in extensive alarm system which has been built in the area.
