BLUE MOMENT IN DUBROVNIK

For me the true magic of Dubrovnik comes visible only after the sunset. When dusk starts, the beautiful lights are put on and old city of Dubrovnik is showing its best side. The main street of old city which is walked by thousands and thousands of people is beaming beautifully in the lights, families are wandering in the city while children are playing in the plaza and dogs are in their evening walk. The candles are lit in tens of cafeterias and restaurants and people are enjoying and relaxing after hot summer day.

This evening the sun was going down behind the clouds after the short afternoon rain. So I missed the sunset, but following blue moment before the thunderstorm hit the town was something spectacular. Maybe one of the most beautiful ones I have ever seen. And the thunder following it was intense. My apartment was situated next to the rocky hill so that two walls of it were natural rock. And that didn’t really make thunder any quieter…

TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY IN WALLS OF DUBROVNIK

Bird and Walls of Old City of Dubrovnik, Croatia
Walls of Dubrovnik are providing you the bird’s eye view

Dubrovnik wouldn’t be Dubrovnik without its famous walls which are surrounding the Old City.

It’s easy to get lost when you wander in the small streets of old city of Dubrovnik. Sometimes those small streets can be totally empty and you are able to wander there all by yourself. They can give you a good insight to local living and for me they are part of the unique atmosphere of Dubrovnik. In the other hand the walls of Dubrovnik are crowded, but they give you a totally different view to the city, its small streets and surrounding landscape. From the wall you can also still see clearly the huge damage caused by Yugoslavian army, because there are clear color differences in orange roofs of houses due the reconstruction. When reconstruction was made color of new tiles was not totally matching with old ones, so the scars of the war can still be clearly seen.

About 2 kilometers long walls of Dubrovnik are surrounding the whole old city. In midday heat walking around them can be exhausting, but it’s still worth of the views! Lot of scenes for HBO series Game of Thrones have been filmed in the walls and its towers.
